Fast Facts

Blastomycosis is a fungal infection caused by inhaling spores of a fungus that lives in moist soil and decaying wood and leaves.

People who smoke, have respiratory disease, or have conditions that weaken the immune system are at greater risk of illness but even healthy people can become seriously ill.

Blastomycosis can be effectively treated with anti-fungal drugs.
